Abstract: This paper is concerned with the "interoperability
        between knowledge domains", ie that knowledge in
        different fields (and in different forms) should be
        integrated within one coherent source. An "open
        hyperdocument system" is suggested as the backbone
        for interoperability. Issues concerned with this
        type of hypertext system are raised, and its
        essential elements provided.
