Abstract: The paper provides an up-to-date portrait of the
        state of our knowledge about group decision support
        systems (GDSS). Five major research implications are
        offered: the lack  of research on some important
        "formal" factors of groups; the lack of knowledge of
        the impact of GDSS on the informal dimensions of a
        group; the need to move away from the lab towards
        real field studies; the relation between group
        development and how it affects GDSS; and how the
        structure imposed by technology affects group
        processes.
