Abstract: The paper provides a theoretical analysis of the
        small group. There are two themes. First, group
        functioning is multidimensional, and that the
        actions of individuals, groups and organizations
        have implications for outcomes on each of these
        dimensions. Second, the temporal sequence of
        behaviour in groups (stages of group development,
        phases of group task performance...) is both a
        function and a determinant of group effectiveness.
        The themes then provide the foundation for a
        speculative discussion of the effects of information
        technologies, and how they might help or hinder the
        temporal flow of communication and work in groups.
